Biography
Cyndi Howerton is a Republican member of the Kansas House of Representatives, representing District 98, which includes sections of Wichita, Haysville, Derby, Salem Township, and Riverside Township. She was appointed to the seat on August 25, 2021, following the death of Rep. Ron Howard, and subsequently elected in a special election. Outside politics, she works as a tax service manager, overseeing multiple retail offices for a tax preparation company, and volunteers as a parent advocate with AgapeCare Cradle, supporting families experiencing infant loss. She is a veteran's wife, daughter of retired educators, and emphasizes values of hard work, integrity, and common-sense governance.
Education and Political Experience
Howerton holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
Her political experience includes running as the Republican nominee for Kansas House District 86 in 2020, where she lost to Stephanie Byers. She has served in District 98 since 2021 and holds key committee roles, including Vice-Chair of the Water Committee, and membership on Taxation, Child Welfare and Foster Care, and Legislative Modernization committees. She also serves on the Joint Committee on Child Welfare Oversight and chairs the House Committee on Child Welfare System Oversight.
