Biography

Cyndi Carrasco is an American politician and attorney serving as a member of the Indiana Senate from the 36th district. A Republican, she assumed office on November 1, 2023, representing portions of Johnson and Marion counties. She resides in Indianapolis with her husband, Robert, and their daughter, Sarah. Carrasco is Hispanic.

Professionally, Carrasco has a background in law and higher education administration. In 2015, she was appointed by Governor Mike Pence to serve as the Inspector General of Indiana. She later served as the Vice President and General Counsel of the University of Indianapolis, beginning in July 2023. Her community involvement includes serving as a Trustee for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College from 2017 to 2023 and as a Governor's Designee for the Indiana Commission on Public Records from 2017 to 2021. She is a member of St. Francis and Clare Parish and the Indiana State Bar Association.

Education

Carrasco earned a Bachelor of Science in political science from the University of Texas at El Paso. She subsequently obtained a Juris Doctor from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.

Her additional professional development includes graduation from the Leadership Development Academy of the Indiana State Bar Association in 2014. She was also a Fellow of the Hoosier Fellows Program at the Randall L. Tobias Center for Leadership Excellence in 2009.

Political Experience

Carrasco entered the Indiana Senate following the unexpected death of Senator Jack Sandlin in September 2023. She was selected to fill the vacancy via caucus, defeating former state representative John Jacob with a vote of 53–5.

Prior to her election to the Senate, Carrasco sought the office of Marion County Prosecutor in 2022. She challenged the incumbent, Ryan Mears, but was defeated in the general election.

During her tenure in the Indiana Senate, Carrasco has held several leadership positions within the legislature. She serves as the Chair of the Judiciary Committee and the Ranking Member of the Corrections and Criminal Law Committee. She is also a member of the Environmental Affairs Committee and
