Biography
Senator Curtis Trent is a Republican representing Missouri's 20th Senatorial District, which includes Barton, Dade, Webster, and part of Greene counties. He took office in the Missouri Senate on January 4, 2023, and serves as Party Assistant Majority Floor Leader . A consistent constitutional conservative, he is recognized for legislative productivity, having passed three bills and five amendments in his first three years, with a long-term goal of repealing Missouri's income tax to boost individual productivity.
Education
Senator Trent grew up on a small farm in southwest Missouri. He graduated summa cum laude from Missouri State University in Springfield with a major in political science and a minor in history. He earned a law degree from Saint Louis University School of Law and is admitted to the Missouri State Bar.
Political Experience
Prior to the Senate, Trent served six years in the Missouri House of Representatives , first elected in 2016 after the seat opened due to term limits. He previously worked as deputy chief of staff to Congressman Billy Long of Missouri’s 7th Congressional District. An attorney, he practiced administrative law , and now focuses on probate and estate planning. He serves on statewide committees including the Court Automation Committee, Midwestern Higher Education Commission, Sentencing Advisory Commission, and State Records Commission. Trent is active in the Church of Christ and community groups like the Sons of the American Revolution.
