Biography
Cristin McCarthy Vahey is a Democratic member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, representing the 133rd District . Born in West Chester, Pennsylvania, she resides in Fairfield, Connecticut, with her husband Brian and their three children. Elected in November 2014, she assumed office on January 7, 2015, and is currently serving her sixth term after winning re-election in 2024. Notable achievements include serving as House Chair of the Public Health Committee, member of the Appropriations and Transportation Committees, former Majority Caucus Chair , and former co-chair of the House Planning and Development Committee . She has advocated for mental health initiatives, economic development, voter access, and community safety.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: BA in Economics/Government from the University of Notre Dame; MSW in Children, Youth, and Families from the University of Washington.
- Early Career: Began as a social worker at Casey Family Services; co-founder of the Juvenile Review Board; co-chair of the Fairfield Cares Community Coalition; volunteer with Girl Scouts of America; member of the League of Women Voters.
- Political Experience: Elected to Fairfield Board of Selectmen ; former co-chair/deputy moderator/member of Fairfield's Representative Town Meeting ; Commission on Economic Competitiveness ; received the 2010 Denise Dougiello Young Turk award.
