Biography
Corey Jermaine Simon Sr. is a Republican Florida State Senator representing District 3, which includes counties such as Dixie, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Suwannee, Taylor, and Wakulla. First elected in 2022 after defeating incumbent Democrat Loranne Ausley, he serves through 2032 and is the first African American Republican State Senator from Florida since Reconstruction. A former NFL defensive tackle who played eight seasons and helped Florida State University win the 2000 national championship, Simon is now Athlete Alumni Engagement and Development Director. Notable achievements include serving as CEO of Volunteer Florida , founding Corey's Kids mentorship program, and leading Big Bend Pop Warner as president since 2011. He chairs the Senate Education Pre-K-12 Committee, vice-chairs Education Postsecondary, and serves on committees like Appropriations, Criminal Justice, and Rules.
Education and Political Experience
Education: Earned a B.S. in Information Studies from Florida State University in 1999; football team captain , Consensus All-American, Lombardi Award finalist, Outland Trophy finalist, Nagurski Award finalist, and first-team All-Conference.
Political Experience: Elected to Florida Senate District 3 in 2022 ; Children and Youth Cabinet member ; previous CEO of Volunteer Florida, coordinating with state agencies on community initiatives. Married to Natasha Givens Simon; Christian affiliation.
