Biography

Representative Cody Vasut

Cody Thane Vasut is a Republican state representative serving House District 25, which encompasses southern and western Brazoria County, including Angleton. First elected in 2021, he is known as a conservative problem-solver focused on transparency and common-sense governance.

Vasut is deeply rooted in community service and civic engagement. He founded Revive, a college ministry in 2011, which has served hundreds of young adults at Brazosport College and throughout the area. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Pregnancy Help Center of Brazosport, where he advocates for pro-life values and supports families and single mothers. Additionally, he has served on Angleton City Council since 2016.

Education

Vasut has an exceptional academic record with multiple advanced degrees:

  • *Bachelor of Business Administration * in Management from Texas A&M University, graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA
  • *Master of Science * in Management from Texas A&M University, graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA

During his undergraduate years, he served as Speaker of the Student Senate at Texas A&M.

Political Experience

Vasut brings over a decade of legal experience to his legislative role, having practiced law representing businesses in oil and gas, personal injury defense, employment litigation, and trade secret cases. He is a former President of the Brazoria County Bar Association and a Texas Bar Foundation Fellow.

In the Texas House, Vasut holds significant leadership positions and committee assignments:

  • Vice Chair of the House Business & Industry Committee
  • Member of the Culture, Recreation & Tourism Committee, Ways and Means Committee, and House Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence Committee
  • Member of the House Committee on Protecting Texas LNG Exports

His legislative priorities reflect fiscal conservatism and community welfare. Recent notable achievements include co-authoring legislation to increase homestead exemptions for homeowners and seniors, co-sponsoring a foundation and trade diploma program for vocational training in high schools, and passing legislation on property tax relief, hunting regulations, and HOA reform. During the 89th Legislative Session, he successfully passed 23 bills through the House, with 19 becoming law. He has been recognized as an A-rated Taxpayer Champion.
