Biography
Clyde Shavers is a Democratic state representative serving Washington's 10th Legislative District since 2023. The district includes all of Island County and portions of Skagit and Snohomish Counties. He serves as Vice Chair of the House Education Committee and is a member of the Capital Budget Committee, Innovation, Community & Economic Development Committee, Veterans Committee, and Artificial Intelligence Task Force. Notable achievements include sponsoring a fusion technology bill, developing an Allied Health Professions Career and Technical Education program in schools, establishing the Purple Star Award for military families, lowering property taxes for seniors, veterans, and the disabled, capping medication costs, and increasing retirement benefits for teachers.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy; Yale Law School, where he founded the Yale Coalition to End Homelessness and studied environmental law with the Natural Resources Defense Council.
- Political Experience: Served 8 years in the U.S. Navy, including tours with U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/U.S. 5th Fleet in the Middle East and Destroyer Squadron 7 in Southeast Asia. Prior to election, volunteered with Skagit Friendship House and South Whidbey’s Goosefoot . Elected to the Washington House of Representatives in 2023; sponsored 7 bills and co-sponsored 32 in his first term. Focus areas: public safety, veterans support, affordable housing, environmental protection, and affordable healthcare.
