Biography
Clay Handy
Clay Handy is a fourth-generation Idahoan and businessman who currently serves as a Republican member of the Idaho House of Representatives representing District 27B. He resides in Burley, Idaho, with his spouse Kristine Hansen and has six children. Handy is the President and CEO of Handy Truck Line, a regional trucking company.
Political Experience
Handy brings more than 35 years of public and community service to his legislative role. His prior positions include:
- Burley City Councilman – 8 years
- Cassia County Commissioner – 8 years
- Cassia Regional Hospital Board Member – 13 years, serving as Chairman for 8 years
- Burley Area Development Association Chairman – 8 years
- Idaho Trucking Association Board President – served two separate terms
Notable Achievements and Current Positions
Handy was first elected to the Idaho Legislature in 2022 and assumed office on January 9, 2023, succeeding Fred Wood. In his first legislative term, he joined the *Joint Finance Appropriations Committee *, considered a powerful legislative committee that sets each element of the state budget.
Among his legislative initiatives, Handy cosponsored the "Clean Slate Act," which would allow criminal records to be sealed in cases of some minor, non-violent offenses.
Beyond his primary roles, Handy has served on numerous boards and advisory committees, including the Zions Bank Advisory Board, South Idaho Community Action Board, and various statewide and regional transportation advisory boards. He has demonstrated a commitment to supporting local law enforcement and community development throughout his career.
