Biography
Claire Swift - New Jersey Assembly Member
Claire Swift is a Republican member of the New Jersey State Assembly representing the 2nd Legislative District. A lifelong resident of Atlantic County, she was first sworn in to the Assembly in January 2022 and began her second term in January 2024. Swift resides in Margate with her husband, John, and their three children: Jack, Anthony, and Claire. Notably, she lives on the same street where she grew up with her father and seven siblings.
Education
Swift earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1996 and her law degree from Widener University Law School in 1999.
Political Experience
Following law school, Swift clerked in Atlantic City for Michael Winkelstein, the assignment judge for Superior Court in Atlantic and Cape May counties, from 1999 to 2000. She then served as a deputy attorney general from 2000 to 2003, after which she started a law firm with two of her brothers.
In the Assembly, Swift serves on the Labor Committee and the State and Local Government Committee. Her legislative focus encompasses law and public safety, support for working families, student loan protection, assistance for small businesses, and skilled labor development.
Swift has been a member of the Atlantic County Bar Association since 2005 and served on the Committee of Character and Fitness for the state board of Bar Examiners from 2013 to 2016. She is actively involved in her community through memberships in the Stockton Women's Leadership Council, Atlantic County Chamber of Commerce, Atlantic County Board of Realtors, and the Jewish Federation of Atlantic & Cape May Counties. In 2022, she was awarded the Woman of the Year award by the New Jersey State Republican Committee.
