Claire Snyder-Hall is a Democratic State Representative for District 14 in the Delaware House of Representatives, which includes Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, and the southern part of Lewes. Elected in 2024, she is the first woman to represent this district, defeating two opponents in the Democratic primary and Republican Mike Simpler in the general election . Notable achievements include leading Common Cause Delaware as executive director , advocating for voting rights, campaign finance reform, and government transparency; prior activism in marriage equality, death penalty repeal, and protections for manufactured homeowners; and four years as chair of RD 14 Democratic Committee. She identifies as LGBTQ+ and Christian.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: BA cum laude in psychology from Smith College; PhD in political science from Rutgers University.
  • Academic Career: Taught political science at Rutgers, Princeton, Hunter College, Illinois State University, and New College of Florida; tenured faculty at George Mason University, directing programs and leading the American Democracy Project for civic engagement; authored three books and dozens of articles; 20 years of classroom experience.
  • Political Experience: Elected to Sarasota County Democratic Committee and state Democratic Progressive Caucus while in Florida; moved to Rehoboth, Delaware in 2011; unsuccessful 2014 run for Delaware State Senate; co-led phone banks for marriage equality; organized against rent increases for manufactured homeowners; prison ministry at Sussex Correctional; worked with adolescents; lobbied in Dover on democracy issues. Sworn in January 2025.
