Cindy Ryu is a Democratic member of the Washington State House of Representatives, serving District 32 Position 1 since 2011.

Cindy Ryu, born Kim Sin Hi, immigrated to the U.S. from South Korea at age 10, living briefly in Brunei and the Philippines before settling in Washington state in 1969, where she has resided for over 50 years. She and her husband, Cody, owned a successful insurance agency for 26 years, raised three children, and she began community service as a Sunday School teacher. In Shoreline, she served on the City Council , as Mayor —becoming the first Korean-American woman mayor of a U.S. city—and as president of the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce and Dollars For Scholars. Notable achievements include improving public parks, building Shoreline's first City Hall, creating the Shoreline Green Business Program, and advocating for small businesses, public transportation, environmental protection, affordable housing, and public safety. She currently chairs the House Technology, Economic Development & Veterans Committee and serves on the Federal Communications Commission Intergovernmental Advisory Committee.

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with Honors and MBA in Operations Management, both from the University of Washington.
• Political Experience: Elected to Washington State House, District 32 Position 1 ; former Deputy Majority Whip and Assistant Majority Whip; past chair of Community Development, Housing and Tribal Affairs Committee and Housing, Community Development, and Veterans Committee; former roles on multiple committees including Business and Financial Services, Capital Budget, and Trade Policy; Chair of Women in Government Foundation; President of Pacific Northwest Economic Region; Co-Chair of National Council of State Legislators’ Technology and Communications Standing Committee.
