Biography
Cindy Golding
Cindy Golding is an American politician, entrepreneur, farmer, and former chemist born in 1952 in Chicago, Illinois. She has represented the 83rd district of the Iowa House of Representatives since January 2023, representing rural Linn County with Cedar Rapids as her hometown. She is a member of the Republican Party.
Golding has had a diverse career spanning multiple decades. She began as an analytical chemist at Esmark Corp, later transitioned to roles as a homemaker and volunteer, and eventually became an entrepreneur, business executive, farmer, and real estate investor. She is the owner of Sweet Maple Farms and operates as a small business owner in her community.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Golding has been deeply involved in community service. She has served as a color guard and cheerleading coach, Chemistry Olympiad proctor, Academic Decathlon coach and judge, MathCounts coach, and church youth leader. She has also volunteered with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, served as an FFA volunteer and judge, and was an Olympic torch bearer.
Golding is married to Joe and has six children and 21 grandchildren. She resides in rural Linn County, Iowa.
Education
Golding attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb and Elmhurst University in Illinois, where she majored in biochemistry.
Political Experience
Golding first pursued elected office in 2011 when she ran for the 18th district of the Iowa Senate in a special election to fill a vacancy, but lost to Democrat Liz Mathis. She announced her candidacy for the Iowa House in 2021 following redistricting and won the Republican primary unopposed on June 7, 2022. She defeated Democrat Kris Nall in the general election on November 8, 2022, by over 2,800 votes.
In the Iowa House, Golding serves on several committees: Natural Resources , Local Government, Transportation, and the Justice System Appropriations Subcommittee. She is also involved in various civic organizations, including the National Federation of Independent Business Leadership Council, Linn County Farm Bureau Board, and the Linn County Republican Central Committee . She previously served as second vice president of the Iowa Federation of Republican Women.
