Charles E. Martin Jr., known as Chuck Martin, was born on July 20, 1961, in Alpharetta, Georgia. He is a member of the Republican Party and identifies as Baptist. Martin is married to Johnna, and the couple has two children, Miles and Lance, as well as two grandchildren, Brooks and Barrett.

Professionally, Martin has held various business roles, including serving as a Director at Ryan, Limited Liability Company since 2006, and as the Founder and Principal of Martin Business Solutions and Total Technical Solutions from 1987 to 1999. He has received numerous awards for his legislative work, including Legislator of the Year honors from the Technology Association of Georgia, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia State Firefighters Association, and the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs. He also received the Outstanding State Legislator award from the Georgia Council on Aging in 2011.

Education

Martin attended the University of Georgia from 1979 to 1983, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Science. He later graduated from the Regional Leadership Institute in 1996.

Political Experience

Martin began his public service career in local government as a City Councillor in Alpharetta, Georgia, from 1993 to 1995. He subsequently served as the Mayor of Alpharetta from 1996 to 2002.

In 2003, Martin was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives. He initially represented the 37th district from 2003 to 2005 and the 47th district from 2005 to 2013. Since 2013, he has represented District 49. Within the legislature, he has served as the Chairman of the Higher Education Committee since 2019. His committee assignments include membership in the Appropriations, Ways and Means, Rules, Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications, Regulated Industries, Retirement, and Creative Arts and Entertainment Committees. Following the 2020 presidential election, Martin supported a performance review of the top election official in Fulton County.
