Biography
Chuck Hufstetler is a Republican state senator representing Georgia's 52nd District since 2013, covering Floyd County and portions of Bartow, Chattooga, and Gordon counties. He chairs the Senate Finance Committee since 2017 and serves on committees including Health & Human Services, Higher Education, Rules, Retirement , and Appropriations . Notable achievements include sponsoring Georgia's only two income tax rate cuts, leading tax reductions and debt elimination as Floyd County Commission Finance Chair , securing the county's first "AA" bond rating, negotiating the Rome Braves stadium , and advocating for affordable energy rates and environmental protections like preserving the Okefenokee Swamp.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a Master of Medical Science in Anesthesiology from Emory School of Medicine ; works as an anesthetist at Redmond Regional Hospital in Rome and as an adjunct professor at Emory.
- Early Career: Corporate manager in manufacturing and finance for Welch Foods, Earthgrain, and Anheuser-Busch across New York, Texas, California, and Georgia; owned Paul's Oyster Bar in Rome.
- Political Experience: Floyd County Commissioner , where he cut property taxes six times, eliminated debt, built a record rainy day fund, and led stadium and bike trail projects; elected to Georgia State Senate in 2012.
