Biography
Christy Zito is a Republican state senator representing District 8 in Idaho, a four-county area in southwest Idaho including Mountain Home. She won the 2024 primary and general elections, securing her current term after previously serving two terms in the Idaho House of Representatives and one term in the Idaho Senate from District 23. A small business owner, farm owner/operator, and ranching background, Zito is a self-described gun-rights activist who sponsored House Bill 206 in 2019, allowing Idaho residents aged 18-20 to concealed carry without a permit; the bill passed with supermajority support and was signed by Governor Brad Little. Notable achievements include founding member of the Idaho Freedom Caucus, board member of the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance, former chair of the Friends of NRA committee and State IDGOP Resolutions Committee, and high Idaho Freedom Foundation score of 97.7% in 2025. She has five children and 11 grandchildren.
