Christopher S. Murphy was born on August 3, 1973 in White Plains, New York. After graduating from Williams College in 1996, he was elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1998. He served in the Connecticut State Senate from 2003 to 2007. In 2006, Murphy was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. He defeated Republican wrestler Linda McMahon in Connecticut's 2012 U.S. Senate race. In the Senate, Murphy serves on the Foreign Relations; Health, Education, Labor and Pensions; and Appropriations Committees. He has advocated for health care reform and greater federal investments in job creation. Murphy has also been an outspoken advocate for stemming gun violence.read less
