Biography

Christopher M. Markey is a Democratic member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives representing the 9th Bristol district, which includes the town of Dartmouth and portions of Ward 1 in New Bedford. First elected in 2010 and taking office in 2011, he is a lawyer who previously served as an assistant district attorney in the Bristol County District Attorney's Office from 1995 to 2007, prosecuting cases including murder, rape, and child abuse. Son of the late former New Bedford Mayor Jack Markey, he is 58 years old , lives in Dartmouth with his wife, and has four children. In January 2026, he announced he will not seek re-election to the House and is instead running for Bristol County District Attorney following the incumbent's retirement. Notable achievements include receiving the Massachusetts Bar Association's Legislator of the Year Award in 2019 and continuing to practice law privately.

Education and Political Experience

Education: Bishop Stang High School , Stonehill College , Southern New England School of Law . While in law school, he worked as a Witness Victim Advocate in the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.

Political Experience: Elected to the Massachusetts House in 2010 for the 9th Bristol district; served as assistant district attorney , overseeing prosecutions across Bristol County's four district courts while maintaining a full Superior Court trial caseload; currently campaigning for Bristol County District Attorney.
