Christine Watkins

Christine Watkins is a Republican member of the Utah House of Representatives representing District 67, which encompasses Carbon, Duchesne, Emery, and Grand counties in central and eastern Utah. Born on May 18, 1950, in Logan, Utah, she was raised in Cache Valley and currently resides in Price, Utah. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Watkins has deep roots in rural Utah and is known for her advocacy for rural communities and industries.

Watkins began her career as a teacher, instructing at Castle Dale Elementary School in the Emery County School District for 20 years. She later transitioned to work as Director of UniServ for the Utah Education Association, a position she held from 1997 to 2006.

Education

Watkins holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Utah State University and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of Utah. She also earned three Special Education Endorsements from Brigham Young University.

Political Experience

First elected to the legislature in 2008, Watkins initially served in the Utah House of Representatives representing District 69 from 2009 to 2013. After losing her reelection bid in 2012 to Republican Jerry Anderson, she switched her party affiliation from Democrat to Republican. She successfully returned to the legislature in 2016, narrowly defeating incumbent Democrat Brad King, and has served continuously since then in District 67.

Watkins has held several significant leadership positions within the House, including Chair of the Business, Economic Development and Labor Appropriations Subcommittee, Chair of the Child Welfare Legislative Oversight Panel, and Chair of the Native American Liaison Committee. She also serves as a member of the Judiciary Committee and Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment Committee. Additionally, she serves as a board member of Castle View Hospital in Price and is a trustee at College of Eastern Utah.
