Biography
Christina Henderson is an Independent at-large councilmember representing the District of Columbia. Born October 10, 1985, in Brooklyn, New York, she is the daughter of an Army veteran and a retired Transport Workers Union Local 100 member, growing up as an "Army brat" with multiple relocations. Elected in 2020 with 15% of the vote among 23 candidates after switching to independent status and earning The Washington Post's endorsement, she lives in Petworth with her husband Nu, daughters Jordan and Cameron, and rescue dog Langston. Her career focuses on equity, guided by the principle that zip code should not limit opportunity; notable achievements include securing wins on maternal and reproductive health, worker pay and benefits, food insecurity, public safety, small businesses, and good governance. She chairs the Council's Committee on Health and co-founded the Black Women’s Congressional Alliance.

- Political Experience: Legislative Assistant for U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer on education, workforce, postal, and census issues; deputy chief of staff for former DC Councilmember David Grosso, directing the Committee on Education ; advanced over 40 bills on student discipline, facilities, reproductive health, medical marijuana, and alcohol sales; worked for DC Public Schools on teacher and leader quality; legislative staffer for Sen. Kay R. Hagan on budget, taxes, and child nutrition; consulted for NYC Department of Education and other boards; campaigned for Hillary Clinton in 2008. Named one of Pacific Standard's top 30 thinkers under 30 in social and behavioral sciences .
