Biography
Christie New Craig is a Republican representing District 19 in the Virginia State Senate, covering parts of Chesapeake City and Virginia Beach City. Born February 8, 1967, in Portsmouth, Virginia, she is a lifelong Chesapeake resident and graduate of Western Branch High School. A former Sworn Senior Law Enforcement Officer with the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office , she later served as Chief of Staff to retired State Senator John A. Cosgrove . Elected to the Chesapeake City School Board for three terms , she chaired it from 2013 to 2016, overseeing a $429 million budget for 47 schools and 38,685 students. She won her Senate seat in the 2023 election following redistricting, with her term set to expire in 2028. Notable achievements include the 2012 Virginia National Guard Bronze Star Medal for Exceptional Service; she is married to Merrill Craig and affiliated with Christianity.
