Biography
Representative Christian Menefee
Christian Dashaun Menefee was born on April 18, 1988, in Houston, Texas. He was raised in Texas's 18th Congressional District by two military parents who instilled in him values of service and hard work. Menefee is a first-generation college graduate and a lifelong advocate for justice.
Political Experience
Menefee is a member of the Democratic Party and currently serves as the U.S. Representative for Texas's 18th Congressional District, a position he has held since February 2026. He won a special election runoff on January 31, 2026, to fill the seat that had been vacant since the March 2025 death of Representative Sylvester Turner.
Prior to his election to Congress, Menefee served as County Attorney for Harris County, Texas, from 2021 to early 2026. At age 32, he became the youngest person and first African American elected to this position in Harris County, the state's most populous jurisdiction.
Notable Achievements
Menefee's election to Congress is particularly significant because it reduced the Republican House majority to a narrower four-seat edge in a closely divided chamber. During his special election campaign, he ran on a progressive platform focused on expanding access to healthcare, fighting for economic justice, and reforming immigration policy.
His tenure in Congress for the remainder of Turner's term will last until January 2027.
