Biography

Representative Christian Manuel

Christian Manuel is a Democratic state representative serving Texas House District 22, which includes Port Arthur and surrounding areas in Southeast Texas. Born in Nederland, he is the eldest of six siblings and comes from a family deeply involved in political activism. Manuel has roots in Port Arthur, where his family is based.

Education and Political Experience

Manuel earned an Associate degree from Lamar University. He brings nearly two decades of professional experience in Texas state politics to his current role. Early in his career, he started working as a staffer for former State Representative Joseph Deshotel at age eighteen. Over time, he progressed through the ranks, eventually serving as Chief of Staff—a position he held for a decade before his election to the legislature.

Notable Achievements and Current Positions

Manuel was first elected to the Texas House in 2023 and was recognized as Freshman of the Year by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus during his first legislative session. In that session alone, he sent six bills to the Governor's desk.

One of his significant legislative accomplishments is HB 3250/HB 5012, which allows Beaumont to receive tax revenue from a hotel and convention center project and pledge revenue for related obligations. This legislation was designed to boost the local economy by attracting tourism, increasing business activity, creating job opportunities, and generating tax revenue for Southeast Texas.

Currently, Manuel serves on several House committees, including Appropriations , Human Services , Redistricting, and the Select Committee on Congressional Redistricting.
