Biography
Delegate Chris Obenshain represents Virginia’s 41st district. He lives in Blacksburg with his wife Jennifer and their three sons. A third-generation resident of Montgomery County, Obenshain returned to the New River Valley to raise his family and is a graduate of Cave Spring High School. He is described as coming from a family with a long tradition of public service, including his grandfather, Dr. Sam Obenshain, and his father, Joe Obenshain, a U.S. Army veteran who served as an Assistant County Attorney for Roanoke County.
Education
Obenshain is a law school graduate who also served in leadership at the UVA Chapter of the Federalist Society, and he later pursued a legal career leading into public service and military service in a legal capacity.
Political Experience
Obenshain’s political and public-service experience includes work across local, state, and federal government, as well as Republican leadership roles. He has held leadership positions in multiple GOP organizations, including the Montgomery County, Radford City, and Richmond City Republican parties, and the Bridgewater College Republicans. He also chartered and served as Chairman of the Roanoke/NRV Young Republicans. In addition, his governmental experience includes working with U.S. Senator George Allen and serving in Richmond as an Assistant Attorney General under Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, along with prosecutorial work in the New River Valley .
