Biography

Chris Hurt is a Republican state representative for District 82 in the Tennessee House of Representatives, covering parts of Lauderdale, Haywood, Crockett, Gibson, and Obion counties. Born on July 5, 1972, he was first elected in 2018 and has served multiple terms, including as assistant majority Whip during his first term. A self-identified conservative, Hurt is 100% pro-life, supports Second Amendment rights, opposes same-sex marriage and illegal immigration, and advocates for low taxes and balanced budgets. He supported the 2023 expulsion of three Democratic lawmakers for decorum violations and introduced HB 254 in 2022 to classify enhanced handgun permit holders as law enforcement. Married to Dawn Hurt with five children, he attends First Baptist Church in Halls and enjoys hunting and fishing.
