Biography
Christopher R. Blazejewski
Christopher R. Blazejewski is an American progressive Democrat serving as a member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives representing District 2 in Providence. Born on December 3, 1979, in North Smithfield, Rhode Island, he resides in Providence with his wife, Ami Gada, and two children, Aria and Liam.
Education
Blazejewski earned his Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies from Harvard University and his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School . He also served as a teaching fellow at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard College and clerked for the Rhode Island Supreme Court.
Political Experience
Blazejewski was first elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives in November 2010, defeating Independent candidate Richard Rodi with 70.9% of the vote. He served as Deputy Majority Whip from 2015 to 2021 before being elected House Majority Leader in November 2020, a position to which he was re-elected in November 2022 and November 2024.
As a legislator, Blazejewski has championed progressive causes including:
Climate and environmental policy: Cosponsored and led passage of the Act on Climate, requiring net zero emissions, and championed the nation's most robust renewable energy standard, setting Rhode Island on course to 100% renewable electricity by 2033
Gun safety: Led passage of legislation prohibiting high-capacity firearms magazines, banning firearms from school grounds, and banning untraceable "ghost guns" and 3D-printed firearms
Workers' rights and economic opportunity: Cosponsored pay equity legislation protecting workers regardless of sex, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, age, or ancestral origin; sponsored a law making noncompetition agreements unenforceable against hourly and low-wage employees, children, and college students; and sponsored the Wavemaker Fellowship program for science, technology, engineering, and medicine graduates
Criminal justice reform: Cosponsored the fair chance licensing law protecting Rhode Islanders from occupational license denials based on unrelated criminal convictions
Legal Career
Prior to his current legislative role, Blazejewski worked in the Litigation Department at Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP in Boston. He is currently a Litigation and Employment Partner at Sherin and Lodgen LLP, representing businesses, law firms, and individuals in complex commercial litigation, business disputes, and legal malpractice defense. He is licensed to practice in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
