Biography
Sidney "Chip" Fitzpatrick
Sidney "Chip" Fitzpatrick is a Democratic state representative for Montana's House District 42, which includes Big Horn County and a section of Yellowstone County. He was elected to the Montana House of Representatives in the 2024 election, narrowly defeating his Republican opponent Bill Hodges with 52% of the vote. The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee selected Fitzpatrick as one of three Montana candidates to support, and he was the only one among them to win his seat. He was elected following the retirement of incumbent Sharon Stewart-Peregoy, who was ineligible to run due to term limits.
Political Experience
Fitzpatrick brings substantial public service experience to his legislative role. He served as a Big Horn County Commissioner from 2010 to 2022, during which time he held the position of Chair of the Board and served on numerous committees.
In his current position in the state legislature, Fitzpatrick has been assigned to three committees: Business and Labor, Transportation, and Fish, Wildlife and Parks. These committee assignments reflect the needs and industries of his rural district in south-central Montana.
