Biography

Charlie Kimbell is a Democrat representing Windsor-5 in the Vermont House of Representatives. The youngest of eight children, he grew up in St. Albans, Vermont, before moving to Brownsville and attending Woodstock Union High School, where he graduated as class president and valedictorian. He met his wife Carolyn in chemistry class; they have been married 37 years and have three grown children, all Woodstock Union High School graduates. An avid athlete, Kimbell has directed events like the Covered Bridges Half Marathon, Road to the Pogue, Longest Mile, and Prouty Ultimate. He describes himself as fiscally conservative and socially liberal, focusing on education funding, workforce housing, economic development, health care costs, and rural vitality.

Education and Political Experience

Kimbell graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in political science, where he competed on the alpine ski team, served two terms as student body president, and received awards like the George Kidder Medal for leadership.

His political career includes serving three terms as Vermont State Representative for Windsor-5 . Notable roles: Vice Chair, House Committee on Commerce and Economic Development; Co-Chair, Rural Caucus and Rural Economic Development Working Group; Legislative Member, Vermont Economic Progress Council; Joint Legislative Management Committee. In 2022, he ran unsuccessfully for Lieutenant Governor in the Democratic primary. He is currently seeking reelection to Windsor-5 following the retirement of incumbent Tesha Buss.

Prior experience encompasses 36 years in the private sector: commercial banking , art publishing , software development , sales/marketing consulting, co-owner of Elevation Clothing , and community roles like Chair of Woodstock Economic Development Commission and Trustee of Village of Woodstock. He has served on 15+ nonprofit boards.
