Biography
Charles D. Lavine is a Democrat representing New York's 13th Assembly District, which includes portions of northeastern Nassau County. Born on August 14, 1947, in Marinette, Wisconsin, he has served in the New York State Assembly since 2005. With a background in criminal law, he holds key leadership roles, including Chair of the Judiciary Committee, former Chair of the Election Law Committee , and Chair of the Administration Regulations Review Commission. He is also president of the New York Chapter of the National Association of Jewish Legislators. Notable achievements include authoring legislation to strip pensions from corrupt public officials, sponsoring marriage equality, aiding veterans, stiffening penalties for high-capacity magazines, and advocating for campaign finance reform and ethics.

- Education: Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin; Juris Doctorate from New York Law School.
- Political Experience: Elected in 2004 and reelected multiple times, defeating Republican challengers in 2008 and 2010. Serves on committees including Codes, Health, Higher Education, Insurance, Social Services, Judiciary, Ethics and Guidance, and Rules. Previously chaired the Committee on Ethics.
