Biography
Charles D. Fall is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly representing District 61, which covers the North Shore of Staten Island, Lower Manhattan, and parts of Brooklyn. He serves as the Deputy Majority Leader and is the first Muslim and African American Assemblymember elected from Staten Island. Born on March 12, 1989, in Staten Island, New York, he comes from a working-class family of six whose parents immigrated from Guinea, West Africa. His legislative priorities include addressing academic disparities, affordable housing, health coverage, transportation infrastructure, and fostering community relationships.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a BA from Southwestern College in Kansas and a Master of Public Administration with honors from Pace University.
- Political Experience: In 2014, served as Staten Island Borough Director and Citywide Islamic Liaison for the Mayor of New York City, helping advance Universal Prekindergarten and paid sick leave. Later became Chief of Staff to the Staten Island Parks and Recreation Commissioner, focusing on enhancing local parks for recreation and safety. Elected to the Assembly, where he has hosted community events like a historic Lunar New Year Celebration.
