Charity Clark
Charity Rae Clark was born on July 15, 1975, and is an American lawyer and politician from Vermont. She is a member of the Democratic Party and has served as Vermont Attorney General since January 5, 2023. Clark made history as the first woman ever elected Attorney General of Vermont.
Political Experience
Clark's career in the Vermont Attorney General's Office began in 2014 as an Assistant Attorney General in the Public Protection Division. She was later appointed Chief of Staff, serving from 2018 to 2022 and becoming the first person to hold this position. During her tenure as Chief of Staff, she oversaw the Office's expungement clinics, training attorneys to assist Vermonters seeking to expunge or seal their criminal records.
In the 2022 Vermont Attorney General election, Clark announced her candidacy after serving as Chief of Staff. She defeated Rory Thibault in the Democratic primary with 58% of the vote and won the general election against Republican Mike Tagliavia with 65% of the vote. She was reelected in 2024.

As Attorney General, Clark has focused on protecting Vermonters and representing the state's interests. Her notable actions include:
- Suing Monsanto for contaminating Vermont's water resources and schools with polychlorinated biphenyl
- Suing the FDA to increase access to medication abortion in Vermont
- Suing Meta and launching an investigation into TikTok over their harm to children
- Negotiating the return of security deposits totaling $310,000 for formerly houseless Vermonters participating in Vermont's "motel program"
- Prioritizing safe storage legislation for firearms and supporting an assault weapons ban
- Leading efforts to implement recommendations from the Domestic Violence Fatality Review Commission
