Chapin Rose: Illinois State Senator

Chapin Rose is a Republican member of the Illinois Senate representing the 51st District since January 2013. Born December 17, 1973, Rose was raised in central Illinois and currently resides in Mahomet with his wife, Camille, and their four children.

The 51st District encompasses all or parts of McLean, DeWitt, Macon, Piatt, Shelby, Moultrie, Douglas, Champaign, Vermillion, and Edgar counties in Central Illinois.

Education

Rose attended Charleston High School and received a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science with an emphasis in Economics from the University of Illinois. He later earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois College of Law.

Political Experience

Prior to Senate:
Rose served as a Senior Assistant State's Attorney in Champaign County, where he prosecuted felony crimes. He then served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2003 to 2013, representing the 110th District.

Current Senate Service:
Since entering the Illinois Senate in 2013, Rose has held several significant positions:
- Minority Spokesperson – Appropriations and Member of the Appropriations Committee
- Assistant Republican Leader in the Senate Republican Caucus
- Lead budget negotiator for the Senate Republican Caucus and key voice on fiscal policy
- Member of committees on Appropriations–Education, Insurance, Judiciary, and Transportation

Rose was appointed to the Illinois Senate Republican leadership team in March 2026 in recognition of his fiscal policy expertise.

Notable Achievements

Rose has been recognized multiple times by the Illinois Farm Bureau for his work supporting pro-agriculture and pro-job creation policies. He was selected to participate in the inaugural class of the 2012 Edgar Fellows Leadership Program and has received numerous awards for legislative leadership and advocacy for taxpayers and job creators across Central Illinois.
