Chao Wu, born in 1976 or 1977 in Yingshan, Hubei, China, is a Democratic member of the Maryland House of Delegates for District 9A. Elected in November 2022 after defeating incumbent Trent Kittleman, he was sworn in on January 11, 2023. He previously served on the Howard County Board of Education from 2018 to 2022, where he was elected chair in December 2020, becoming the first Asian American to lead the board, and sat on its Audit Committee and the Howard County Spending Affordability Committee. Wu also served as a board member of the Maryland Association of Boards of Education , River Hill Village Association , and Columbia Association , and helped initiate Columbia's sister city agreement with Liyang, China.
