Biography

Chantel S. Jackson is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly representing the 79th District in the Bronx, which includes Concourse Village, Melrose, Morrisania, Claremont, Belmont, and East Tremont. Born in Harlem and raised in a close-knit family—her mother is an immigrant from Belize and Vice Chair of a local DC 37 chapter, and her late father was an entrepreneur and CEO of WIBO—she is a licensed master social worker with a background in public service rooted in community ties. Elected in November 2020 after winning the Democratic primary with 26% of the vote , she assumed office on January 1, 2021, and is now in her third term. Notable achievements include championing A7713 for adolescent offender case reforms, securing a $30 million investment for underserved communities as Chair of the New York State Black Legislative Task Force , and serving as Chair of the New York State Legislative Women's Caucus .
