Biography
Cecilia Aguiar-Curry
Cecilia Aguiar-Curry was born on September 25, 1954, and is a Democratic member of the California State Assembly representing District 4, which encompasses all of Napa, Lake, Yolo, and Colusa counties, as well as parts of Sonoma County.
She grew up in western Yolo County in a farming family and spent her youth working on her family's walnut orchards. After working in the Bay Area for several years, she returned to her hometown of Winters, where she became deeply involved in community development and regional leadership. She is a co-owner of an 80-acre family walnut farm and founded a consulting firm specializing in public outreach with government agencies.
As the first female Mayor of Winters, Aguiar-Curry oversaw significant local improvements, including securing computers for every sixth grader, bringing broadband internet to rural communities, building senior housing, and establishing an agricultural and food innovation hub. She also played a key role in bringing a $75 million PG&E training facility to Winters and was involved in creating the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument.
Aguiar-Curry currently resides in Winters with her longtime partner, Larry Harris, and has two adult daughters and a stepson.
Education
Aguiar-Curry earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from San Jose State University. She later obtained a degree in accounting, also from San Jose State.
Political Experience
Aguiar-Curry was elected to the California State Assembly in 2016 and has served continuously since then. She has held several leadership positions within the legislature and currently serves as the Assembly Majority Leader since 2023 and as Chair of the California Legislative Women's Caucus.
Throughout her legislative career, she has championed bills protecting victims of domestic violence and sexual harassment, led efforts to reduce wildfire severity, and authored labor-supported legislation including prevailing wage provisions for forest-thinning projects. Her legislative priorities include expanding healthcare access, delivering broadband to underserved communities, protecting workers and retirees, supporting firefighting efforts, advancing women's rights, and addressing housing and infrastructure needs.
