Cecelia González is a Democratic member of the Nevada Assembly representing District 16 in the central Las Vegas Valley, including portions of downtown and areas around McCarran International Airport. Born in 1991 in Whittier, California, she is a Thai-Mexican American, daughter of immigrants, raised in Las Vegas, and identifies as LGBTQ+. Elected in 2020, she succeeded Democratic Assemblywoman Heidi Swank, defeating three primary opponents with 50.1% of the vote and Republican Alex Sajdak in the general election by 30.6 points. A Nevada educator, community activist, and organizer, she has advocated for interpersonal violence prevention, women’s health, criminal justice reform, education, and raising the minimum wage. Notable achievements include academic and community awards for volunteerism, work with organizations like NARAL, Planned Parenthood, Mass Liberation Project, For Our Future, and the 2020 Elizabeth Warren campaign, and balancing motherhood, teaching, doctoral studies, and legislative duties.
