Biography
Cathrynn Brown
Cathrynn N. Brown is an American politician and Republican member of the New Mexico House of Representatives representing District 55, which encompasses portions of Eddy and Lea Counties. She has served in this position since January 18, 2011. Brown resides in Carlsbad, New Mexico, and is recognized as a wife, mother, lawyer, and volunteer who has been described as an active and positive influence in her community. She has recently retired from practicing law in Carlsbad.
Education
Brown is a graduate of Reed College and earned her law degree from the University of Idaho College of Law, where she served as editor-in-chief of the Law Review.
Political Experience
Brown has represented District 55 for approximately 14 years and is known for her bipartisan approach to legislation. She currently serves as a member of the powerful Appropriations and Finance Committee and holds the ranking member position on the Transportation, Public Works, and Capital Improvements Committee. Previously, she served eight years on the House Judiciary Committee and chaired two committees of the New Mexico Legislature from 2015 to 2016.
Additionally, Brown is a long-time, active member of the National Council of State Legislatures' working group on nuclear energy issues. She is a strong supporter of financial literacy education for New Mexico high school students and has been recognized as one of the most effective legislators in Santa Fe.
