Carter Barrett is a Republican politician representing Georgia House District 24 in Forsyth County. A native Georgian originally from Augusta, he moved to Cumming in 1990 and has been a prominent business and community leader. Barrett co-founded Community Business Bank in 2006 , maintained its profitability through the Great Recession, and sold it in 2015; he later worked for Affinity Bank. He has served on numerous boards, including Sawnee Community Center, Northside Hospital Foundation, United Way of Forsyth County, Forsyth County Chamber , and others like The Place of Forsyth and Pups with a Purpose. A graduate of Leadership Forsyth and Leadership North Fulton, he is a founding member and past president of the Rotary Club of Lanier Forsyth, and co-chair of Envision 2030. Notable achievements include being named a “Man of Forsyth” by Forsyth County News, receiving the Chamber Chairman’s Award twice and the Paramount Achievement Award, recognition from the Georgia House for service to Forsyth County, and the 2023 Outstanding Legislator of the Year by the Coalition of Advocates for Georgia's Elderly. He earned 102% A+ on the Georgia Faith & Freedom Coalition 2024 Legislative Scorecard and opposes abortion.

Education and Political Experience

Barrett is a graduate of the University of Georgia. In politics, he won the 2022 Republican primary runoff against incumbent Sheri Gilligan , with support from then-Speaker David Ralston, then defeated Democrat Sydney Walker in the general election to represent west Forsyth County. He has stated that the 24th House district is the only political office he intends to run for. As of 2026, he remains active, sponsoring bills such as those noted in House Second Readers on March 19, 2026. He and his wife Jamie live in Cumming, attending North Point Community Church, with daughters who graduated from West Forsyth High School.
