Carol Ode is a Democrat representing Chittenden-18 in the Vermont House of Representatives, serving since 2017. The granddaughter of immigrants from Burlington, she is in her fourth term as of 2024, currently on the House Ways and Means Committee , Legislative Committee on Administrative Rules , House Ethics Panel , and Lake Champlain Citizens Advisory Committee . She serves as State Lead to the Legislature for the National Council of Environmental Legislators and as Chair of the Vermont Agricultural College Board on the University of Vermont's Board of Trustees . Notable achievements include receiving the 2024 PCAVT Champion Award for helping Vermont ban child marriage, the 2017 Council of State Governments Henry Toll Fellowship, the 2001 YWCA Susan B. Anthony Leadership in Public Service Award, and the 2000 Golden Apple Award from the Burlington School Board.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: Graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in History from the University of Vermont; J.D. from Cornell Law School; pursuing a certificate in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School, including a course on Tax Policy and Administration.
• Political Experience: Former chair and board member of the Vermont State Board of Education and Burlington School Board ; represented Grand Isle and Chittenden counties on the Vermont School Boards Association board; served on the Regional Advisory Board for Chittenden County’s Technical Centers. Previously on the House Natural Resources, Fish and Wildlife Committee . Other roles include vice chair of the Vermont Bar Foundation board, board member of The Vermont Journalism Trust , legislative coordinator at DRM Government and Public Affairs, and service on boards like Burlington Waterfront, Lund Family Center, and UVM Alumni Council.
