Biography
Carol Alvarado is a Democrat representing Texas Senate District 6, which includes southeast Houston, Houston’s East End and Northside, Aldine, Channelview, portions of Houston Heights, and cities like Baytown, Galena Park, Jacinto City, Pasadena, and South Houston. A Houston native and small-business owner, she was first elected to the Senate in a 2018 special election and is now in her fourth term. Notable achievements include chairing the Texas Senate Democratic Caucus and serving on committees such as Finance, Economic Development, Natural Resources, Nominations, and Congressional Redistricting. Her legislative priorities focus on economic development, public health, public education, women's health and reproductive rights, voting rights, criminal justice reform, and protecting children from e-cigarettes. As a Houston City Council member and Mayor Pro Tem, she led efforts to make restaurants smoke-free, halt hazardous chemical shipping, install air quality monitors, and require contractors to provide employee health benefits. She is a lifelong Democrat, former Precinct Chair, Senate District 6 Chair, and Democratic National Committee member, including the 2016 Platform Committee.
