Biography
Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn is an American politician and member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party , representing District 49B in the Minnesota House of Representatives, which covers parts of Eden Prairie and Hennepin County in the southwestern Twin Cities metro area. Born in 1986 or 1987, she grew up in a union household in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and has lived in Eden Prairie with her husband Rory and their four children for nearly two decades. She is a full-time parent and former professional in operations and management across education, non-profits, and IT. Elected in 2018 by defeating five-term Republican incumbent Jenifer Loon, she is the first Democrat to represent this area in nearly 50 years and has been reelected multiple times, including in 2024. Notable achievements include serving as vice chair of the Commerce Finance and Policy Committee, and membership on committees such as Children and Families Finance and Policy, Economic Development Finance and Policy, Human Services Finance, and Ways and Means. She is pro-choice, a founding member of the Reproductive Freedom Caucus, and authored H.F. 1 in 2023.
