Biography
Carl Sherman is a Democratic politician and senior pastor at a Church of Christ in DeSoto, Texas. He served as the first Black mayor of DeSoto, elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2013, where he focused on economic development and attracting quality jobs. Previously a Texas House Representative for District 109 , he was first elected in 2018 after a primary runoff and held one of the safest Democratic seats. In 2023, he announced a U.S. Senate campaign against Ted Cruz, positioning himself as a unifying leader advocating for higher police salaries and rural hospitals. Notable achievements include appointment to the Texas Commission on Judicial Selection, House Committees on Appropriations and Corrections, and recognition as Texas Legislative Black Caucus Freshman of the Year.
