Biography

Carl Wayne Scott Gilliard is a Democratic member of the Georgia House of Representatives representing District 162 . He has served since his election in 2016 and is currently in his fourth term, sworn in on May 5, 2016. Gilliard is a reverend, business owner, and community leader known for youth initiatives, anti-crime efforts, and feeding programs. He is married to Lashawnda Gilliard.

Notable achievements include founding Project L.O.V.E., Inc., the Chatham County Youth Commission, Saturday Morning Academy, and Feed the Hungry Inc. nonprofit that has served over 1.5 million meals across 14 cities in Georgia and South Carolina. He authored landmark legislation like "The Blind Bill" and House Bill 750 . Other honors: named one of Georgia's top 100 most influential African-Americans , GLBC Legislator of the Year , and Chairman Emeritus of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus .
