Biography
Buzz Scherr is a Democratic representative for Rockingham 26 in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, assuming office on December 4, 2024, succeeding Joan Hamblet. A resident of Portsmouth, NH, he is married with two children. Notable achievements include serving as Police Commissioner for Portsmouth, NH; acting as a nationally recognized expert on forensic DNA evidence with over 20 years as a trial and appellate lawyer; directing the Trial Advocacy Program at the University of New Hampshire School of Law; chairing and serving as president of the ACLU of NH for 5.5 years and on the national ACLU Board; authoring successful legislation on debtors' prisons, bail reform, and a proposed constitutional amendment on informational privacy; and leading NIH-funded projects on genetics, law, and privacy.
