Biography
Kerry "Bubba" Underwood is a Republican member of the Alabama House of Representatives, representing District 3 in northeast Colbert County and southern Lauderdale County. Elected on November 8, 2022, after defeating Democratic opponent Wesley Thompson with 63.1% of the vote, he assumed office on November 9, 2022. A native of northwest Alabama, Underwood previously served as mayor of Tuscumbia from 2016, winning uncontested reelection in 2020. As mayor, he focused on economic development by recruiting businesses, increasing city sales tax revenue without raising taxes. He campaigns on pro-life, pro-gun, pro-military, pro-first responder, and pro-jobs platforms, emphasizing statewide economic incentives.
Education and Political Experience
Underwood has been a certified public accountant since 1998, launching his own firm in 2004. His political experience includes his current role in the Alabama House, where he serves on committees such as Financial Services, County and Municipal Government , Boards, Agencies and Commissions, Local Legislation, Ways and Means General Fund, Permanent Joint Legislative Committee on Finances and Budget, Legislative Committee on Public Accounts, and Sunset Committee.
