Biography
Senator Bryce E. Reeves
Bryce Eldon Reeves was born on November 28, 1966, in California. He is a Republican representing District 28 in the Virginia State Senate, a position he has held since 2012. His district encompasses all of Culpeper, Greene, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock counties, along with parts of Fauquier and Spotsylvania counties.
Before entering electoral politics, Reeves served as a commissioned officer in the United States Army, where he completed Airborne School and earned his Ranger tab as an infantry officer. Following his military service, he worked as a narcotics detective in Prince William County. He is the president of Bryce Reeves Insurance and Financial Services Inc. and president of Reeves Asset Management Group. Reeves is a member of Spotswood Baptist Church, where he serves as a deacon.
Education
Reeves completed his undergraduate degree in business from Texas A&M University. He earned a Master of Public Administration from George Mason University and completed the University of Virginia's Sorensen Political Leaders Program, where he was selected as class president. He has also studied at the U.S. Army War College and Harvard University Kennedy School of Government.
Political Experience
Reeves first ran for public office in 2007, when he unsuccessfully sought a seat on the Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors. In 2011, he won election to the Virginia State Senate by 226 votes, defeating incumbent Richard Houck. His victory shifted the Senate from Democratic to Republican control.
During his tenure in the Senate, Reeves has sponsored over 146 pieces of legislation and serves on the Finance, Commerce & Labor, General Laws & Technology, and Rehabilitation and Social Services committees. He is currently the Virginia Senate Minority Whip and a ranking member of the Virginia Military Advisory Council. Notable legislative achievements include establishing the first federal Veteran's Treatment Court, passing the largest tax break for Virginia veterans, and sponsoring two constitutional amendments providing additional benefits to 100% disabled veterans. He holds an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association and was voted the Most Conservative Senator by CPAC.
