Biography

Bryant Wandrick Clark is a Democratic member of the Mississippi House of Representatives representing District 47, which encompasses parts of Holmes, Attala, and Yazoo counties. Born on October 31, 1974, in Jackson, Mississippi, Clark is a native of Ebenezer in southern Holmes County. He is the son of Robert G. Clark Jr., a historic figure who was the first Black Mississippian elected to the state Legislature since the 1800s and the first Black Mississippian to preside over the House chamber since Reconstruction.

Clark succeeded his father in the legislature after Robert G. Clark Jr. retired. He was first elected in 2003 and sworn into office on January 6, 2004, beginning his tenure representing District 47. He has been reelected multiple times, including in 2007 and 2011.

Education

Clark is a 1993 graduate of McClain High School in Lexington, Mississippi. He attended Holmes Community College in Goodman, Mississippi, where he received his Associate of Arts degree in 1995. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi Valley State University and his Juris Doctor from Mississippi College School of Law.

Political Experience

Clark currently serves as Secretary of the MS House Democratic Caucus. During his second term in the legislature, he presided over the House chamber, a notable accomplishment for a sophomore legislator.

His committee assignments include Conservation and Water Resources , Appropriations, Judiciary A, Judiciary En Banc, Medicaid, Public Health and Human Services, and Transportation. He previously served on the Education, Juvenile Justice, and Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks committees, and chaired a Juvenile Justice Subcommittee.

Beyond his legislative role, Clark is an attorney and partner in the law firm Clark & Clark, PLLC in Lexington, Mississippi. He is a member of both the Mississippi Bar Association and the Magnolia Bar Association. He also serves as President of the Holmes County Branch of the NAACP and was previously Vice President of the Young Democrats of Mississippi. In 2002, he received the Distinguished Young Democrat award from the State Party.
