Biography

Bryan Lawrence

Bryan Lawrence is an American politician and farmer serving as a Republican member of the Minnesota House of Representatives representing District 27B. Born on June 28, 1970, in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, he represents the northern Twin Cities suburbs, including parts of Anoka, Isanti, Mille Lacs, and Sherburne counties.

Lawrence was sworn into office on April 2, 2024, replacing former Speaker Kurt Daudt. He is married to Marytina and has four children. The Lawrence family operates a farm in Princeton, Minnesota, where they have lived and worked together for many years.

Education

Lawrence graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1988 and went on to attend the University of Minnesota, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Agricultural Business Administration.

Political Experience

Lawrence's involvement in politics began in 1996 when he ran for state house district 17B, receiving 36% of the vote against incumbent Leslie Schumacher. He ran again in 1998, increasing his vote percentage and name identification. He subsequently ran for Sherburne County Commissioner twice, garnering 47.2% of the vote in one race.

Before his election to the state house, Lawrence served on the Baldwin Township board for over 20 years and held leadership positions in county government, including chair of the Sherburne County planning and zoning board. He also served on the County Board of Adjustment and the County Waste Management Committee.

Beyond government, Lawrence has been active in agricultural organizations. He serves as President of the Sherburne County Farm Bureau and President of the Minnesota Turf Association, as well as President of the Minnesota Hereford Breeders. He and his wife previously served on the state board of directors for Young Farmers and Ranchers and represented Minnesota agriculture at national conferences and in Washington, D.C.

In the state legislature, Lawrence was assigned to the Children and Families Finance and Policy committee and the Education Finance committee.
