Biography
Bryan Fontenot
Bryan Paul Fontenot is an American politician, former law enforcement officer, and businessman currently serving as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives representing the 55th district. He represents Lafourche Parish and assumed office on January 13, 2020. He is a Republican and is eligible to serve through the 2028 term.
Fontenot is the CEO of Bryco Land Developments. He is known for his conservative legislative positions, including strong anti-abortion stances and support for Second Amendment rights. He has voted to support the criminalization of in vitro fertilization and certain forms of birth control, and has supported bills proposing prosecution of women for abortion or miscarriage without exceptions for rape, incest, or protection of the mother's life. In 2021, he voted in support of permitless concealed carry legislation.
Education
Fontenot graduated from Thibodaux High School in 1996. He is currently pursuing studies in Criminal Justice at Fletcher Technical Community College.
Political Experience
Fontenot was elected as justice of the peace in Lafourche Parish in 2014 before being elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in October 2019. In the state legislature, he serves as Vice Chair of the Transportation, Highways and Public Works committee and also sits on the Administration of Criminal Justice and Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs committees. He is a member of the Acadiana Delegation, the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation, and the Louisiana Rural Caucus.
