Biography
Representative Brianna Thomas
Brianna Thomas is a Democratic member of the Washington House of Representatives, representing the 34th District , which includes West Seattle, Vashon Island, Maury Island, White Center, west Burien, downtown Seattle, and Georgetown. She serves as Assistant Majority Whip and was appointed to the seat on January 21, 2025, by the King County Council to replace Emily Alvarado.
Brianna Thomas has built her career around public service and progressive advocacy. A University of Washington graduate, she began engaging with state government as a teenage legislative page in 1998, followed by roles as an intern and legislative aide in Olympia. In the early 2010s, she managed the successful SeaTac “Yes for $15” minimum wage campaign—the first $15/hour wage initiative in the nation—and led Seattle’s Honest Elections initiative, establishing the city’s democracy voucher public-financing system. She also served as field director for the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance Action Fund, advocating for affordable housing. Later, she worked as a policy advisor in the Seattle Mayor’s Office, a staffer in the Washington State Senate, chief of staff for Seattle Councilmember M. Lorena González, and campaign manager for related efforts.
