Biography
Brian Williams is a Democratic State Senator representing Missouri's 14th Senatorial District in St. Louis County since 2018. He is the first Black male elected to the Missouri Senate in 20 years and currently serves as Assistant Minority Floor Leader and Democratic Caucus Whip. Notable achievements include securing over $98 million in funding for North St. Louis County projects, such as the University of Missouri-St. Louis "Campus of the Future," public safety training, and Jamestown Mall redevelopment; leading comprehensive criminal justice reforms, including the nation's strongest use-of-force database, banning respiratory chokeholds, and creating a conviction review unit; championing police reform legislation; establishing Human Trafficking Awareness Day; freezing property taxes for seniors over 62; and expanding healthcare access for sickle cell anemia patients and others.
Education and Political Experience
Williams studied government and public health policy, which sparked his public service career. He served as a congressional staffer for eight years, overseeing Missouri’s Affordable Care Act Marketplace rollout and helping secure the $1.75 billion National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency headquarters in North St. Louis. He also served on the board of a community health center for four years. Elected in 2018, he has focused on job creation, education, healthcare, public safety, and community revitalization, including funding for Kinloch redevelopment and youth programs.
